Tim Berners-Lee, the man who invented the World Wide Web, may not have thought that his invention will be shaping the future of the human race when he announced it. The World Wide Web was merely one of the programs he built, but it was powerful enough to change the way we live, work, communicate, and see the world.

There was a time when communication meant letters that would take weeks to reach, work meant having to be at the office physically for each meeting, presentation, and appointment, and the internet meant some cool technology that was not accessible for most people - and it was not so long ago.

The World Wide Web paved the way for cloud technology, and ever since, we have seen drastic changes happening in the tech world - so drastic that we find it hard to keep up with the latest advancements. From handwritten letters to virtual assistants, we have come a long way in the last fifty years.

But it seems like the last 50 years has seen more development than the 5000 years before that. Of course, there were new inventions and discoveries, but none of them has changed the lives of past generations as much as the internet and cloud technology is changing ours. We may be able to find multiple reasons behind it, but one thing is for sure - we will see even more drastic changes in the future, and we won’t have to wait a hundred years for that - we will see it in our lifetime.

What does it mean?

We don’t know! Technological advancements affect each generation differently. The youngsters find it easy to adapt and are enthusiastic about new technologies. The older generations, on the other hand, find it difficult to catch up with it. The ones in between see their professional, and personal lives get affected by the tech evolution.

It may mean working in the comfort of our homes for some, and it may mean socializing and catching up with old friends and colleagues for some others - but it means something for everybody.

Where are we headed?

It feels like the answer is dangerous and scary, but who really knows? One thing is sure: wherever we are headed, we are headed there fast, and it’ll be faster than most of us realize. Just think about the technological advancements in the 80s and 90s, and compare them with the progress made in the last five or ten years. We have seen more vigorous research and development in the last few years than the 80s, 90s, and 2000s combined.

Most of us don’t even realize that the future will be way different from the present. At least, we think that it will not change that much in our lifetime. But hey! If the last few years have seen this much change, the future will definitely see more of it, and it will happen very, very quickly. The decisions and choices we make about cloud tech today will impact how fast we adapt to the future, and hopefully, we are making the right choices, and our children and grandchildren will have the freedom and opportunities we had. As history tells us - our children’s future depends on adult decisions today.

Technology is confusing. There are a thousand developments we hear about each year, and all of them sound cool and interesting, but only a few survive the test of time. And today, since we have understood how powerful AI is, businesses are competing to integrate more innovative AI algorithms into the cloud software.

But what we can understand from all of this is simple - cloud technology can’t be skipped or put on hold. It is too important to closely watch the developments and implement the ones that will be shaping the future. Unfortunately, we don’t have enough time for all that.
